A good logo is most often described as being “timeless." For NIFCO Mechanical's logo, I took this Nebraska company’s vision and brought it to life with Red Branch Media's 3-round logo process.
NIFCO Mechanical Systems, Inc. is a fire sprinkler and mechanical piping contractor providing quality service in the Lincoln, Nebraska area since 1975. They provide services such as design, installation, inspection, and maintenance of sprinkler systems. As they continued to grow and offer more services, they wanted a fresh look that represented the quality of work they provide to their clients. Following the kickoff call discussion about their website and new logo guidelines, I was able to get a board of new logos into production. Here’s what they wanted.
Logo Must-Haves:
Keep the existing blue from their previous logo
The tagline must be integrated
Try creating logos that integrate fire sprinklers or piping shapes
I designed 12 new logos for the NIFCO team. To give it a more state-of-the-art look, I chose contemporary slab serif and sans serif fonts. For added options, I provided logos with NIFCO in all caps and all lowercase. I made sure to use the original blue from their previous logo and tried various orange colors since it’s both a complementary color and represents the “fire” of fire sprinklers, with some versions using alternate grays to add to the contemporary aesthetic. To integrate their long tagline, I decided to divide it with an ampersand or a line. For a larger variety, I provided options with 2 colors to break it up and make it easier on the eyes. Finally, the shapes of sprinklers and piping were woven into letters.
The NIFCO team chose logo #12. They loved the minimal, yet clever mechanical piping that was woven into the “O” of NIFCO. In addition, they enjoyed the bold sans serif font and how well it paired with the thinner, contrasting sans serif tagline font below. The divided line also added an element of freshness to the tagline, while the color choices reinforced its meaning with blue to represent the water of mechanical piping and orange to represent fire sprinklers. Overall, the logo successfully represents NIFCO as a bold, quality-driven, and trustworthy company. What I especially love about this logo is the slight addition of orange in the “O.” This forces the viewer’s eyes to stop at the “O” to view and appreciate its appearance before finishing reading the company name. This splash of orange in NIFCO also ties together the two-color tagline below.
The NIFCO team was excited to present their new logo and website to the world and their clients. They’ve already rolled out new company shirts for their about page, printed with my logo! Overall, I feel I hit the nail on the head with their branding, and am honored they trusted me to make it happen.
